Updating to the latest Salesforce Managed Package

What:

Octiv has recently released a new version of our Salesforce Managed Package. This article will provide steps for you to upgrade from whatever package you’re currently on.

Why should you upgrade?

Updating to this new Managed Package version will keep you up to date and allow you to take advantage of new features in the integration. Some of the notable updates in this new package are:

  • Removed unnecessary components that are no longer used

  • Template Name is now available on the Octiv Documents related list

  • Post installation instructions to add your Octiv URL

If an earlier version of the Octiv Managed Package is installed in your Salesforce instance, it can be upgraded while preserving the existing data.

How:

Step 1: Determine your current package version

Depending on which package is currently installed in your Org, there may be some additional steps to perform the upgrade. Follow these steps to determine your current package version:

In your Salesforce instance, navigate to Setup

  1. Make sure you have the Salesforce permission to view and edit

In the Quick Find / Search Bar, search for “Installed Packages” and click on the available option

Under the “Installed Packages” list, identify the Octiv installed package

Under the “Version Number” column, identify the version currently in use

Step 2: Review upgrade steps based on current package version

If your current version is:

Version 1.24:

  1. You’re on the latest version and don’t need to do anything

Version 1.22.1:

  1. You can directly update to Version 1.24.

Any earlier version (1.22 or lower):

  1. You must first install the patch package (Version 1.22.1) and then update to Version 1.24

Note: You will be unable to update your installed package directly from Version 1.22 to Version 1.24 without first installing the patch package (Version 1.22.1). Salesforce blocks this package upgrade because Version 1.24 removes unused legacy Apex code that one or more Visualforce pages or global Visualforce components need in order to function.

Step 3: Perform the upgrade

Log into the Salesforce instance in which you wish to install the updated Octiv package

If needed, first install the patch package, version 1.22.1

Use the appropriate link below:

  1. If you’re working in a Sandbox org, click here

  2. If you’re working in a Production org, click here

Choose security settings for the package (we recommend “Install for All Users”), then click Upgrade

Click Done

Once version 1.22.1 is installed, you can move onto install version 1.24

Use the appropriate link below:

  1. To begin the package installation in a Sandbox org, click here

  2. To begin the package installation in a Production org, click here

Choose security settings for the package (we recommend “Install for All Users”), then click Upgrade

Confirm that your Octiv account URL is correct, then click Save

Once the page loads, click Done

Optional: Once the package is installed, you can go back to the Installed Packages page and view the Unused Components. These items are no longer needed with the new package version 1.24. You may delete these components from your Salesforce instance. As a managed package provider, Octiv cannot go into your Salesforce instance and delete these or include code in the patch package to delete them.
