Depending on how your account is set up, you might run into an error message when you’re trying to set up a variable. A lot of users run into this message:

Oops! We were unable to create your variables due to the following error: INVALID_FIELD: ...

For Octiv to pull variables from Salesforce, the Salesforce user creating the document needs visibility access to all Salesforce fields referenced by Octiv. To make this happen, you edit the Field-Level Security settings in Salesforce for your users’ profiles.

Follow these steps to change the permissions:

  1. From the Setup menu, choose Administration Setup.
  2. Click Manage Users.
  3. From Profiles, choose any roles that will create Octiv documents.
  4. Scroll down to the Field-Level Security section.
  5. Click on Opportunity or other objects with fields referenced in Octiv. Make sure all fields referenced in Octiv documents are visible to the user.
