You can customize PDF output in Octiv so that you hide content in the web view and display it in the print view—or vice versa. It works for any content you’d like to make web-only or print-only. For example, you can create a signature block that does not show up until your proposal is downloaded in PDF form. Or, if you’re using video in a proposal, you can set it to show up online but not in print, and in fact, you can use that space in the print document to direct your client to the video.

Setting content as web-only

Until we can all view video on a printed page, your best bet is to make sure your video appears only in the web version of your proposal. A smidge of HTML around your video embed code keeps prospects from seeing a black hole where your video should be when they read your PDF. Here’s how you make it happen:

  1. Open the piece of content that contains your video in your Octiv proposal or template.
  2. Click Edit > Source Code in the editor toolbar.
  3. Locate the portion you want to appear only on the web.
  4. Add the bolded portions of code around your embed code:
<div class=“no-print”>[Web-only content goes here, like your video embed code.]</div>
  5. Click Save.

Setting content to appear only in print

Make sure your PDF points prospects in the direction of your video by adding code for print-only copy.

  1. Open the piece of content that contains your video in your Octiv proposal or template.
  2. Click Edit > Source Code in the editor toolbar.
  3. Locate the spot where you want your print-only copy to appear. To continue the video example, you’d look for the video embed code.
  4. Immediately above or below the web-only content, insert your print-only version by using this format:
<div class=“print-only”>[Content to print goes here, like “You must view this proposal online to watch this video.”]</div>
